Nutrition in detail
How Nutrition records meals, handles recipes and stores your data.
Who it is for
Nutrition is for people who want to record what they eat, see the nutrients in their meals and organize recipes for everyday cooking. It helps document food and personal changes; it does not prescribe a diet or treatment.
The food diary
Entries belong to a date and a meal. You can add foods, recipes and cooked portions, edit amounts or enter nutrients directly. The app calculates meal and daily totals from the values available.
Each saved entry keeps the food and nutrient values used at the time. Later changes to a food or recipe do not automatically change earlier entries.
Foods, amounts and barcodes
Search the available food catalogue, use saved products or create your own food with nutrient values. Foods can have portions and a barcode. Amounts support weights, volumes and defined countable units; estimated portions are marked as estimates.
Barcode lookup checks saved products and, where available, community foods and Open Food Facts. An unknown product may require an online lookup or manual entry. External and community data can be incomplete or inaccurate.
Reading nutrition labels
The app can read a nutrition table from a photo on your device and suggest editable values. The photo used for this recognition is processed locally for that operation, without being uploaded for recognition or saved as a product photo.
Check the values and the selected basis, such as per 100 g or per 100 ml, before saving. Blur, glare, curved packaging and unusual tables can cause errors. The recognition resources need to be loaded before this works offline. This feature does not identify arbitrary meals from photos.
Recipes, cooking and leftovers
Recipes can include ingredients, amounts, portions, instructions and a recipe photo. You can add a recipe portion directly or start a cooking session. During cooking, record the ingredients and amounts actually used; a session can be paused and resumed.
At completion, enter the finished weight directly or subtract the container weight. Add eaten amounts to the diary. Remaining amounts are calculated from recorded portions and portions shared with friends, so they depend on what you record.
Goals, weight and statistics
You can set nutrient targets, minimums or maximums and record dated weight measurements. Statistics cover a week, a calendar month or three months, using diary entries already stored on the device.
Missing values stay unknown rather than being treated as zero. Results describe your records and are not a medical assessment. Metric and imperial display settings are available; food nutrient bases retain their stated units.
Without an account
The diary, personal foods, recipes, cooking, goals, weight records and local statistics can be used without an account. Guest entries are stored in this browser on this device. They are not automatically available on another device or assigned to a later account.
Clearing browser storage, changing browsers or losing a device can remove access to local data. A guest session is not a cloud backup. Camera access depends on your permission and browser support; manual entry remains available.
Accounts and synchronization
An optional email account enables synchronization of personal records between devices. Depending on what you enter, these can include profile details, height and unit settings, weight measurements, goals, favourites, personal foods, recipes and cooking sessions, diary entries and recipe content or photos.
Changes are saved locally first. Synchronization requires a valid signed-in session and a server connection; a pending or failed transfer is not proof that another device has received a change. Signing out switches to a separate guest area. Local account data can remain on the device.
Food catalogues, downloaded product caches, cooking containers, recognition resources and calculated totals are not all synchronized as personal data. Local use does not mean that every operation or every data type stays on your device.
Community recipes and foods
Published community recipes can be browsed and copied into your own recipes without an account. Publishing, updating or withdrawing your own recipe, rating another recipe and submitting a report require an account and an online connection. Publication requires a separate confirmation of the rights to the shared content.
A saved private copy is independent of the publication. Withdrawing a recipe does not remove copies already saved by other people. Recipe photos may be transferred to the server for account synchronization or publication.
Community food search and publication require an account. Publication shares a separate product copy with selected food values; it does not make your diary public. Check the publication option when saving a food. Community foods are not editorially verified.
Friends and shared portions
Accounts can connect through a friend code and a confirmed request, then share gram portions from finished dishes. The recipient gets the dish name, amount and nutrient values, not access to the sender's diary or full recipe.
Previously loaded friends and portions support some local actions, but finding a new friend and exchanging new changes require a connection. This is a limited sharing feature, without a public social feed or chat.
Offline use and its limits
After the app and the necessary resources have loaded, core diary, calculation, recipe and statistics functions can work with data already available on the device. Previously saved or downloaded products and recipes may be reused.
The first visit, new online food lookups, account actions, synchronization and new community content require a connection. Label recognition needs its separately loaded resources. Offline use is not a guarantee that every screen, image or action will be available.
What the information does not promise
Nutrient results depend on source values, amounts, estimates and your entries. They are not guarantees of accuracy, weight loss or improved health. Nutrition does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or therapy.
Local storage does not establish anonymity, end-to-end encryption or complete privacy. This description does not claim that all data stays on the device, that the whole app works offline or that every food can be recognized.
Nutrition is for personal recording and organization. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
